Effect of deprivation on in vitro fertilization outcome: A cohort study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dec 15, 2019
Richardson AL, et al. - Using retrospective review of prospectively collected data, researchers ascertained if socioeconomic deprivation affects IVF outcome independent of the number of cycles undertaken. This investigation was conducted in a tertiary level fertility clinic in the North of England. Between January 2012 and December 2017, they involved all candidates (n = 3,091) undergoing their first fresh single-embryo transfer, funded by the National Health Service (NHS). Overall, rates for clinical pregnancy and live birth (LB) were 35.9% and 31.3% respectively. More patients with socio-economic deprivation are significantly less likely to achieve an LB than patients with less deprivation, regardless of the number of IVF cycles.
