Effect of cornea preservation time on success of Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty: A randomized clinical trial
JAMA Ophthalmology Nov 17, 2017
Rosenwasser GO, et al. - This study entailed the investigation of the 3-year rate of graft success using corneal donor tissue preserved 8 to 14 days and determined it was noninferior to that of donor tissue preserved 7 days or less. A high 3-year success rate was reported in eyes undergoing Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty was high, regardless of the preservation time (PT). No evidence was yielded with regard to the success rate with donor corneas preserved 8 to 14 days being similar to that of corneas preserved 7 days or less in terms of the prespecified noninferiority limit. Despite the connection between longer PT with a lower success rate, the variation in rates appeared to be small when PT was less than 12 days.
