Effect of continuous positive airway pressure on long-term cardiovascular outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease and obstructive sleep apnea: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Respiratory Research Apr 17, 2018
Wang X, et al. - Researchers determined the impact of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on long-term cardiovascular outcomes in patients with concomitant coronary artery disease (CAD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They analyzed data from relevant observational studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and used random effects models to pool outcomes data. Observational studies showed that CPAP might prevent subsequent cardiovascular events in patients with CAD and OSA, however, this finding was not reproduced in RCTs. Although not confirmed in RCTs, the efficacy of CPAP in significantly attenuating the risk of all-cause death and cardiovascular death was shown in observational studies.
