Effect of continuous antibiotic prophylaxis in children with postoperative JJ stents: A prospective randomized study
Journal of Pediatric Urology Oct 14, 2020
Akinci A, Kubilay E, Solak VT, et al. - Via this prospective, randomized, controlled, non-blind, non-placebo study, researchers sought to determine the effectiveness of continuous antibiotic prophylaxis (CAP) in patients with JJ stent. In addition, they attempted to ascertain the group that could particularly benefit from CAP. Among 105 randomized patients who underwent surgery with JJ stent (PNL, URS, pyeloplasty, UNC), 53 received CAP and 52 were controls and did not receive CAP, during the presence of a JJ stent. Outcomes suggest that the incidence of febrile urinary tract infections reduces in a short period in correlation with receiving CAP in the presence of JJ stents; this was especially noted in children with the prior history of febrile urinary tract infections and lower urinary tract symptoms.
