Effect of clinical parameters on the ocular surface microbiome in children and adults

Cavuoto KM, et al. - Researchers performed a pilot study to ascertain the impact of clinical parameters on the ocular surface microbiome (OSM) in children and adults using 16s ribosomal RNA sequencing. Findings suggested the usefulness of 16s sequencing in evaluating the OSM in patients of all ages, demonstrating a distinct difference between pediatric and adult microbiomes. Within the pediatric samples, no distinct clustering was seen on the eyelid margin microbiota compared to conjunctiva but a distinction between anatomic sites in adult samples was noted.
