Effect of blood transfusions on oncological outcomes of surgically treated localized renal cell carcinoma
Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Jun 05, 2018
Tsivian M, et al. - Authors evaluated the relationship between perioperative allogeneic blood transfusions (ABTs) and recurrence, overall and renal cell carcinoma (RCC)-specific survival in patients who underwent surgical treatment for the clinically localized disease. They noted an independent association of perioperative ABTs with worse oncological outcomes in patients with clinically localized RCC. Findings suggested the correlation of receipt of ABT with roughly a 2-fold increase in the hazard of metastatic progression, all-cause and RCC-specific mortality.
