Effect of area-level socioeconomic deprivation on risk of cognitive dysfunction in older adults
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Apr 05, 2018
McCann A, et al. - The association between area-level deprivation and risk of cognitive dysfunction was investigated among community-dwelling adults aged 74.0 ± 8.3 without dementia in a cross-sectional analysis in the setting of the Trinity, Ulster, and Department of Agriculture (TUDA) study from 2008 to 2012. In older adults, area deprivation was identified as an independent risk factor for cognitive dysfunction, as revealed by the analysis of integrated data from two health systems (in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland). Targeted strategies aimed at improving modifiable risk factors for dementia may be beneficial for adults living in areas of greatest socioeconomic deprivation.
