Effect of antithyroid antibodies on women with recurrent miscarriage: A meta‐analysis
American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Mar 26, 2020
Xie J, Jiang L, Sadhukhan A, et al. - Researchers determined how thyroid autoimmunity influences women with recurrent miscarriage (RM), via this meta‐analysis. They analyzed 22 eligible studies that were identified from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane and Web of Science databases via a systemic literature search. Findings showed significant link between thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO‐Ab) and the prevalence of RM. A higher risk of RM was observed in women with antithyroid antibodies+. In addition, higher thyroid stimulating hormone level was detected among RM women with TPO‐Ab vs those negative for TPO‐Ab. Overall, harmful effects of the presence of serum antithyroid antibodies were evident in women, and these antibodies can even result in recurrent miscarriage. The likely benefit of levothyroxine (LT4) treatment in RM‐women was suggested.
