Effect of an intervention to promote breastfeeding on asthma, lung function, and atopic eczema at age 16 years: Follow-up of the PROBIT randomized trial

JAMA Pediatrics Nov 17, 2017

Flohr C, et al. - The authors contemplated if an intervention to promote prolonged and exclusive breastfeeding safeguarded against asthma, atopic eczema, and low lung function in adolescence. A reduction was illustrated in the risk of flexural dermatitis through a breastfeeding promotion intervention. However, no detectable effect was noted on lung function or questionnaire-derived measures of atopic eczema or asthma in adolescence, in a scenario where atopic eczema and allergies were rare.
