Effect of allergic rhinitis on nasal obstruction outcomes after functional open septorhinoplasty
American Journal of Otolaryngology Mar 12, 2018
Sokoya M, et al. - This retrospective evaluation was conducted to assess if a diagnosis of allergic rhinitis affects surgical outcomes of open septorhinoplasty (OSR). They also examined whether OSR provided the same level of improvement in the quality of life to subjects with and without allergic rhinitis. As measured by the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score, patients with and without allergic rhinitis were seen to experience similar OSR outcomes. They noted that multiple components contributing to nasal airway obstruction were addressed by OSR and thus it could offset the effects of allergic rhinitis. It ought to be offered to the patients with allergic rhinitis and after complete medical management when indicated.
