Effect of adjuvant radiotherapy on the local recurrence of oral squamous cell carcinoma with perineural invasion: A systematic review
Clinical Otolaryngology Feb 17, 2019
Vonk J, et al. - Investigators studied data from Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science to evaluate the relation of perineural invasion in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma and higher local recurrence rates. They also assessed the impact of administration of postoperative radiotherapy on local recurrence in cases with perineural invasion. Overall, they found no indication of postoperative radiotherapy influencing the local recurrence rates. However, some evidence suggested an inclination in local recurrence rates in cases of multifocal perineural invasion, especially if nerves > 1 mm were involved.
