Effect of a self-management support intervention on asthma outcomes in older adults: The SAMBA study randomized clinical trial

Federman AD, et al. - Through a three-arm randomized clinical trial that included 391 adults 60 years and older with persistent, uncontrolled asthma, the researchers intended to test the effect of a comprehensive, patient-tailored asthma self-management support intervention for older adults on clinical and self-management outcomes. Among patients receiving the intervention in home vs practice settings, no significant differences in outcomes were observed. Hence, an intervention directed by patients’ needs and barriers concluded improvement in asthma outcomes and self-management behaviors among older adults.
