Effect of a radical cystectomy care pathway on post-operative length of stay and outcomes
Urology Mar 30, 2018
Brockman JA, et al. - Experts sought to determine if the length of post-operative stay or the number and type of readmissions that occurred after hospital discharge were affected by an enhance recovery protocol for radical cystectomy patients. As per the results, length of stay was significantly decreased with the implementation of a cystectomy care pathway without an increased rate of readmissions at 30 days. They did not note any patient factors to predispose to an increased rate of readmission. The decrease in wound and deep space infection readmissions was caused by pathway implementation but it was related to an increase in UTI readmissions.
