Effect of a chronotype-adjusted diet on weight loss effectiveness: A randomized clinical trial
Clinical Nutrition May 26, 2019
Galindo Muñoz, JS, et al. - Researchers assessed if a diet adjusted to the chronotype of the patient is more effective than current dietary recommendations. This 3-month randomized, double-blind trial included 209 subjects. A typical hypocaloric dietary treatment was followed by 104 subjects; the remaining subjects received a daily caloric distribution adjusted to their chronotype. While both groups improved their anthropometric parameters, the chronotype-adjusted diet group achieved a statistically significantly higher percentage reduction in total body weight loss, body mass index, and waist circumference than the control group. In this study, researchers showed, for the first time, that a chronotype-adjusted diet is more effective in overweight/obese subjects than traditional hypocaloric dietary treatment—at least with respect to anthropometric parameters.
