Educational attainment of childhood cancer survivors: A systematic review
Cancer Medicine Apr 25, 2019
Molcho M, et al. - Via this systematic review of 14 studies identified from 7 databases, researchers determined if the educational attainment of childhood cancer survivors is different vs that of the cancer-free population. The included studies were published from January 2005 to August 2018, were in English, and offered primary data on academic attainment of adult survivors of childhood cancer vs a control group. Among survivors, more favorable educational attainment was documented in four studies, while no significant differences were reported in six studies. Findings did not offer a clear pattern of the long-term results of childhood cancer on education attainment. While this may indicate that there is no consistent variation between the education attainment of cancer survivors and controls, it may also be attributed to limitations in the existing research.
