Education of migrant and nonmigrant patients is associated with initiation and discontinuation of preventive medications for acute coronary syndrome
Journal of the American Heart Association Jun 05, 2019
Frederiksen HW, et al. - Using national registers, researchers examined patients (N=33,199) discharged with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome, to determine the link between patient education and medication persistence post-acute coronary syndrome and to investigate if the potential associations could be modified by migrant background. In this study, the findings were adjusted for comorbidity and sociodemographic factors. They found a higher likelihood of initiating preventive medications following acute coronary syndrome and a lower long-term risk of subsequent discontinuation, independently of migrant status, in relation to patient education.
