Ectopic air localizations after transanal procedures: A systematic literature review
International Journal of Surgery Jun 27, 2018
Balla A, et al. - The incidence, clinical impact and treatment options of ectopic air localizations after transanal procedures were investigated via performing a systematic literature review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Researchers considered pneumo-retroperitoneum as an infrequent complication after endoluminal procedures. It exhibits a dramatic radiological appearance but is completely benign in most cases. Most of the cases with this condition are treated conservatively. They recommend reserving surgical treatment only in case of fluid collection or suture dehiscence.
