ECG-gated CT angiography of the thoracic aorta: The importance of evaluating the coronary arteries
Clinical Radiology Jul 25, 2018
Pierro A, et al. - In the present study, researchers assessed the feasibility of coronary artery disease (CAD) evaluation utilizing electrocardiogram-gated computed tomography CT of the thoracic aorta. For this investigation, they retrospectively included 477 subjects, who had CT angiography of the thoracic aorta. Using Shapiro–Wilk and Anderson–Darling tests, the normal distribution of the data was evaluated. The most accurate method for evaluating thoracic aortic disease was ECG-gated CT. They found that ECG-gated CT angiography of the thoracic aorta allows high image quality of coronary arteries with limited artifacts. It was noted that the identification of CAD in asymptomatic patients during CT angiography of the thoracic aorta had a high clinical impact. The study findings suggested that coronary arteries should always be analysed carefully and reported in ECG-gated CT angiography of the thoracic aorta.
