Eating, sleeping and sexual function disorders in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Endocrinology Feb 07, 2020
Thannickal A, Brutocao C, Alsawas M, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis involving 349,529 patients, researchers explored the relationship of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with eating, sleeping, and sexual function disorders. Ovid Medline In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations, Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, Ovid Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Ovid Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Scopus were the involved databases. Thirty-six studies were included in this analysis. Findings suggested that PCOS can be related to an increased risk of eating (bulimia nervosa, binge eating, or any eating disorder) and sleeping disorders (hypersomnia and obstructive sleep apnoea) as well as reduced sexual satisfaction. In women with PCOS, screening for these disorders can allow early intervention and improve quality of life.
