Early vs late recurrence of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma after resection with curative intent
British Journal of Surgery Dec 01, 2017
Zhang XF, et al. - This study was planned to examine the characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of early versus late recurrence of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) after hepatic resection. Different risk factors and prognosis for early and late recurrence after curative resection for ICC were identified. Patients with early recurrences had extrahepatic disease more often, whereas late recurrences were more often only intrahepatic. From the time of recurrence, overall survival was worse among patients who had early versus late recurrences. Tumour characteristics, including tumour size, number of lesions, and satellite lesions were correlated with an increased risk of early intrahepatic recurrences; however, only the presence of liver cirrhosis was independently correlated with an increased likelihood of late intrahepatic recurrences.
