Ferreira FS, et al. – This trial inspected the initial visual cortical structural alterations in diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy. The data revealed reduced gray matter volume in the occipital cortex, in diabetic patients without retinal damage. Hence, there existed a possibility of cortical early visual processing regions being affected in diabetic patients, prior to the occurrence of retinal damage.
