Early surgery or conservative care for asymptomatic aortic stenosis
New England Journal of Medicine Nov 25, 2019
Kang DH, Park SJ, Lee SA, et al. - In this multicenter trial, experts randomized 145 asymptomatic people with very severe aortic stenosis to early surgery or to conservative care according to the guidance of prevailing guidelines in order to contrast the timing and indications for surgical intervention (aortic-valve replacement surgery, n = 73; and conservative care, n = 72) in asymptomatic people with severe aortic stenosis. It was discovered that among asymptomatic individuals with very severe aortic stenosis, the incidence of the composite of operative mortality or death from cardiovascular causes during the follow-up period was considerably lower among those who underwent early aortic-valve replacement surgery compared with those among those who received conservative care.
