Early results of penetrating keratoplasty in patients with unilateral chemical injury after simple limbal epithelial transplantation
Cornea Sep 16, 2018
Gupta N, et al. - In this single-center, retrospective, noncomparative interventional case series, researchers examined the impacts of sequential penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) on eyes with unilateral chemical injury, which previously had autologous simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET) at a tertiary eye center in North India. The outcomes of interest were allograft survival (primary outcome), defined as a completely epithelialized, clear, avascular graft; improvement in best-corrected visual acuity by 2 lines or any complications was the secondary outcome. According to findings, in cases where the surface has been stabilized by SLET as an initial procedure in these patients, good outcome was provided by PKP. In addition, they found that other causes, such as glaucoma and amblyopia, primarily limited the visual outcome.
