Early response to intravitreal dexamethasone implant therapy in diabetic macular edema may predict visual outcome
American Journal of Ophthalmology Oct 18, 2017
Al-khersan H, et al. - This research ascertained if early visual acuity response to intravitreal dexamethasone implant therapy in diabetic macular edema (DME) exhibited a correlation with long-term outcome. Suboptimal (<5-letter) and robust (≥10-letter) early response to treatment were illustrated by a similar proportion of eyes, at three months. It was noted that eyes with a robust early response exhibited ≥10-letter long-term gain in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), at a markedly higher rate, than those with poor early response. A direct association was brought to light between early treatment response with overall change in BCVA.
