Early-pregnancy intermediate hyperglycaemia and adverse pregnancy outcomes among women without gestational diabetes
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Dec 04, 2021
Ye Y, Xiong Y, Zhou Q, et al. - Intermediate hyperglycemia [fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (5.1–6.9 mM)] has been identified in universal early-pregnancy screening for overt diabetes.
A retrospective cohort study is conducted with the aim to determine if early-pregnancy intermediate hyperglycemia is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes among women without gestational diabetes.
Among a total of 24479 included deliveries, 23450 (95.8%) had a normal oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) later in pregnancy (NGT). FPG = 5.1–6.9 mM was recorded in early pregnancy in 807 (3.4%) women.
Outcomes revealed an elevated risk for adverse maternal-fetal outcomes among women with intermediate hyperglycemia in early pregnancy, even with normal future OGTTs.
