Early pregnancy cardiovascular health and subclinical atherosclerosis
Journal of the American Heart Association Jul 29, 2019
Benschop L, et al. - Within the prospective population-based Generation R Study, researchers carried out this analysis to investigate the possible link between cardiovascular health (CVH) in pregnancy and later life CVH and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT). They also determined whether these links vary between women with a normotensive pregnancy and women with a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP). Findings revealed a smaller CIMT and better postpartum CVH in all women in relation to better CVH in early pregnancy, this was particularly seen in women with an HDP. It is suggested that improved postpartum CVH and attenuation in cardiovascular disease risk might be achieved with the help of CVH evaluation in pregnancy, as pregnancy is an incentive for women to enhance the lifestyle.
