Early postnatal growth and neurodevelopment in children born moderately preterm or small for gestational age at term: A systematic review
Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology Apr 30, 2018
Taine M, et al. - Authors examined the tie-up between early postnatal growth (EPG) before age 3 years and neurodevelopmental outcome for individuals born moderately preterm (MP) (32-36 weeks’ gestational age) or small for gestational at term (SGAT). Findings exhibited a positive connection between EPG and neurodevelopmental outcome for individuals born MP or SGAT. In this relationship, the first 6 months of life could serve as a critical period. Yielded data depicted a non-linear association, with a plateau for IQ with higher weight gain, which indicated a possible ceiling effect.
