Early outcomes of patients with Marfan syndrome and acute aortic type A dissection
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Jul 24, 2021
Farag M, Büsch C, Rylski B, et al. - For patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS), acute aortic Stanford type A dissection (AADA) remains a frequent and life-limiting event. Researchers sought to report the outcome results in this high-risk group. Using the German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A (GERAADA), which gathered data of 56 centers between July 2006 and June 2015, they identified a total of 3,385 patients undergoing operations for AADA, 117 of whom (3.5%) were diagnosed with MFS. Relative to the un-matched cohort, patients with MFS were significantly younger (42.9 vs 62.2 yrs), predominantly male (76.9 vs 62.9%) and less catecholamine dependent (9.4 vs 20.3%). Outcomes revealed no adverse effect of MFS on 30-day outcomes after surgical repair for AADA compared with a matched cohort.
