Head & Neck Mar 11, 2020
Le Flem M, Santini L, Boulze C, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the effect of early oral hydration on the incidence of pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) following total laryngectomy (TL) or total pharyngolaryngectomy (TPL). Between October 2017 and March 2019, a prospective series of 25 patients who received early oral hydration commencing 2 days after surgery were contrasted with a retrospective cohort of 28 patients who received no early oral hydration. According to results, no significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of risk factors for PCF. Early oral hydration following TL or TPL decreases the PCF risk.
