Early oral feeding following McKeown minimally invasive esophagectomy: An open-label, randomized, controlled, noninferiority trial

Annals of Surgery Feb 11, 2018

Sun HB, et al. - Researchers, in this work, determined the impact of early oral feeding (EOF) on postoperative cardiac, respiratory, and gastrointestinal (CRG) complications after McKeown minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal cancer. They observed that with regard to postoperative CRG complications, EOF was noninferior to late oral feeding. Furthermore, patients in the EOF group showed a quicker recovery of bowel function and improved short-term quality of life.
