Early-life socioeconomic circumstances explain health differences in old age, but not their evolution over time
Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health Apr 15, 2019
Cheval B, et al. - Researchers determined if early-life socioeconomic circumstances (SEC) are related to the level of and rate of decline of physical, cognitive and emotional functioning over time. From the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe, they extracted data on more than 23,000 adults in older age. They found an association of early-life SEC with health in old age; however, no association with trajectories of healthy ageing was found. They recommended taking into account the possibility of a limited impact of early-life SEC on healthy ageing trajectories in conceptual models in life course research.
