Early-life gut microbiome and egg allergy
Allergy Apr 18, 2018
Fazlollahi M, et al. - The link between early-life gut microbiota and egg allergy was studied among 141 children with egg allergy and controls from the multicenter Consortium of Food Allergy Research study. Using 16S rRNA sequencing, gut microbiome was profiled. The gut microbiome of children with egg allergy vs controls was characterized by increased alpha diversity and distinct taxa. Children with egg allergy had differentially abundant genera from the Lachnospiraceae, Streptococcaceae, and Leuconostocaceae families. Greater gut microbiome diversity and genera from Lachnospiraceae and Ruminococcaceae were shown to be related to egg sensitization. No link was found between early-life gut microbiota and egg allergy resolution by age 8 years in subjects with egg allergy. Distinct early-life gut microbiota was observed in egg-allergic and egg-sensitized children.
