Early indication of noise-induced hearing loss in young adult users of personal listening devices
Annals of Allergy, Rhinology, & Laryngology Aug 01, 2018
Hussain T, et al. - Experts evaluated the potentially hazardous effects of the use of personal listening devices (PLD) on hearing among young adults. A substantial high-risk subgroup of PLD users was identified in which pure tone audiometry demonstrated elevated hearing thresholds at 4000 and 6000 Hz, thereby suggesting an early manifestation of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). In order to prevent a future increase of clinically relevant NIHL among heavy users of PLD, preventive measures may be warranted.
