Early hyperoxia in the intensive care unit is significantly associated with unfavorable neurological outcomes in patients with mild-to-moderate aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
Shock Apr 21, 2019
Yokoyama S, et al. - Among retrospectively opted consecutive adult patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) between January 2009 and April 2018, researchers assessed the link between hyperoxia during the first 24 hours in the ICU and unfavorable neurological outcomes by using univariate and multivariate analyses. Unfavorable neurological outcomes were observed among 90 of 196 SAH patients. There was no association of early hyperoxia with unfavorable neurological outcomes in overall SAH patients, but those with Hunt and Kosnik grades 1-3 demonstrated a link between early hyperoxia and unfavorable neurological outcomes.
