Early food allergy and respiratory allergy symptoms and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Chinese children: A cross-sectional study
Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Jun 15, 2018
Jiang X, et al. - The association of early food allergy and respiratory allergy symptoms with the prevalence of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was investigated in school-age children using cluster-stratified methods from 9 cities across China between November and December 2005. Parents were asked to complete a family and social environmental questionnaire including the diagnosis history of ADHD and allergic diseases (food allergy, allergic rhinitis, and bronchial asthma), as well as general information. Researchers found an association between early food allergy and ADHD in school-age children. An independent and synergistic contribution of early food allergy and respiratory allergy symptoms to a higher risk of ADHD was observed. In order to early predict and implement an intervention for the consequent allergy march and ADHD in children, it could be helpful to monitor food allergy in early life.
