Early faecal microbiota transplantation improves survival in severe clostridium difficile infections

Clinical Infectious Diseases Aug 30, 2017

Hocquart M, et al. – In this work, researchers determined whether early faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) could improve survival in hospitalized Clostridium difficile infections (CDI) patients, particularly those with severe infection. There appeared a dramatic reduction in mortality with early FMT. They suggest it be considered as a first–line treatment for severe CDI. Further studies are required to clarify complications and contraindications. Reassessment of surgery in this context is recommended.
