Early EEG for outcome prediction of postanoxic coma: A prospective cohort study

Annals of Neurology Jun 09, 2019

Ruijter BJ, et al. - Researchers attempted to provide proof in this prospective cohort study involving 850 patients that accurate forecast of outcomes following cardiac arrest are enabled with early EEG. Study participants included consecutive, comatose survivors of cardiac arrest. Continuous EEG recordings began as quickly as possible and continued for up to five days. Data revealed that 46% had a good outcome. According to findings, EEG enables accurate forecast of poor outcome following cardiac arrest, with peak sensitivity within the first 24 hours. Continuous EEG patterns are at 12 hours after cardiac arrest correlated with excellent recovery.
