Saha SK, et al. - Researchers intended to investigate whether the use of early colectomy in steroid-refractory acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) affected the operative outcome. In patients with ASUC who failed to respond to intensive steroid-based therapy, the policy of early colectomy (within 7 days) improved perioperative outcomes with significantly low in-hospital mortality and morbidity.
