Early clinical outcomes of surgical myocardial revascularization for acute coronary syndromes complicated by cardiogenic shock: A report from the North-Rhine-Westphalia Surgical Myocardial Infarction Registry
Journal of the American Heart Association May 15, 2019
Liakopoulos OJ, et al. - In a prospective multicenter registry, researchers sought for the differences in early surgical outcomes of cardiogenic shock (CS) patients with non–ST-segment–elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and ST-segment–elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). They analyzed 1218 NSTEMI and 618 STEMI patients who were referred for coronary artery bypass grafting between 2010 and 2017. A total of 227 NSTEMI (18.6%) and 243 STEMI patients (39.3%) developed CS. A substantial but not prohibitive in-hospital mortality and major adverse cardiocerebral events rate were observed in relation to surgical revascularization in NSTEMI and STEMI patients with CS. Patients with STEMI complicated by CS vs NSTEMI patients had worse early outcomes.
