Early and late stent thrombosis in patients with vs without diabetes mellitus following percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents: A systematic review and meta-analysis

American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs Aug 26, 2018

Yuan J, et al. - Drug-eluting stents (DES) vs bare metal stents (BMS) are associated with significantly lower rates of revascularization after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), but carry the risk of unpredictable in-stent thrombosis, particularly diabetes mellitus patients, so researchers systematically compared early and late stent thrombosis in patients with vs without diabetes mellitus following PCI with DES. Only randomized controlled trials or observational studies, were analyzed. Findings revealed a similar rate of early stent thrombosis following PCI with DES in both patients with and without diabetes mellitus. A significantly higher rate of late stent thrombosis, however, was found to be related to diabetes mellitus.
