Earlier puberty in boys with type 1 diabetes mellitus compared to a simultaneously recruited group of control adolescents
Pediatric Diabetes Feb 17, 2019
Gaete X, et al. - Researchers assessed the age of puberty in boys with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and determined whether the age of puberty in boys with T1D is associated with the duration of diabetes, metabolic control or insulin dose. They studied boys (aged 7 to 19) with T1D and healthy boys from schools. Findings suggested that boys with T1D treated with modern insulin therapy seem to have an earlier age of onset and an earlier age of final pubertal events than a group of healthy children studied simultaneously. As per data, pubertal delay in male T1D patients is not a common problem. No association between metabolic control and pubertal timing was observed.
