Dynamic ultrasound-guided short-axis needle tip navigation technique vs. landmark technique for difficult saphenous vein access in children: A randomised study

Anaesthesia Oct 11, 2017

Hanada S, et al. - In a pediatric study population weighing ≥ 3 kg and less than four years of age, undergoing non-visible saphenous vein cannulation under general anaesthesia, two techniques were compared viz. dynamic ultrasound-guided short-axis needle tip navigation technique (ultrasound group) vs. landmark technique. Findings revealed that the dynamic ultrasound-guided short-axis needle tip navigation technique versus the landmark technique afforded an improved non-visible saphenous vein cannulation in this patient population, when performed by experienced anaesthetists.
