Dusting vs basketing during ureteroscopy – Which technique is more efficacious? A prospective multi-center trial from the EDGE Research Consortium
The Journal of Urology Dec 30, 2017
Humphreys MR, et al. - In view of the scant evidence in the literature to support dusting stones vs active basket extraction during ureteroscopy for kidney stones, researchers prospectively evaluated and followed patients to determine the modality producing higher stone-free rate with the least complications. For active basket retrieval of fragments, the stone-free rate seemed higher at short-term follow-up on univariate analysis, but not on multivariate analysis. Observations revealed no difference in postoperative complications or procedures. Both techniques should be in the urologist’s armamentarium.
