Duration of general anaesthetic exposure in early childhood and long-term language and cognitive ability
British Journal of Anesthesia Sep 13, 2017
Ing C, et al. - This study assessed the link between duration of volatile anaesthetic (VA) exposure and neurodevelopment in children. Findings reported no difference between children exposed to VA ≤35 min and unexposed children but lower total and expressive language scores in those with exposures >35 min. No clarification could be gained regarding if it is a dose-response link, or if children requiring longer exposures for longer surgeries have other clinical reasons for lower scores.
