Ductal cells of minor salivary glands in Sjogren's syndrome patients express LINE-1 ORF2p and APOBEC3B
Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine Oct 28, 2017
Kalogirou EM, et al. - The intent of the authors was to gauge the immunohistochemical localization of L1 ORF2 and it's inhibitor APOBEC3B protein in minor salivary glands of Sjogren's syndrome patients. The expression of L1 ORF2p and APOBEC3B was noted in the ductal epithelial cells of minor salivary glands which were a part of the key targets in Sjogren's syndrome. L1 ORF2p expression displayed the potential for promoting the L1 ability to act as an intrinsic antigen in Sjogren's syndrome. The potential prospective use of L1 ORF2-reverse transcriptase inhibitors in autoimmunity warranted additional analysis of L1 epigenetic regulation by APOBEC3 enzymes.
