Ductal carcinoma in situ and margins <2 mm: Contemporary outcomes with breast conservation
Annals of Surgery Dec 23, 2018
Tadros AB, et al. - Researchers analyzed 1491 patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) who underwent breast-conserving surgery from 1996 to 2010 to assess the relationship between negative margin width and locoregional recurrence (LRR). As per univariate analysis, age <40 years, no radiation therapy (RT), and negative margin width <2 mm were associated with LRR. Adjuvant RT status was identified influencing the association between margin width and LRR. Hence, findings did not support routine additional surgery for patients with negative margins <2 mm who undergo RT but it should be performed in patients who forego RT.
