Dual-source dual-energy CT in submandibular sialolithiasis: Reliability and radiation burden
American Journal of Roentgenology Oct 11, 2019
Pulickal GG, et al. - Researchers compared virtual unenhanced CT images derived from dual-source dual-energy contrast-enhanced CT vs standard unenhanced CT images with respect to diagnostic accuracy for sialolithiasis evaluation. They reviewed all dual-energy CT studies of the neck performed during the past 5 years for submandibular gland calculi. This analysis included only patients who underwent unenhanced CT and contrast-enhanced CT done as a component of the same assessment. Overall 30 patients were yielded by this review. They found good interobserver agreement displayed by measurements of stone size. An accurate evaluation of sialolithiasis was enabled by virtual unenhanced CT images derived from dual-source dual-energy CT scans of the neck, which was akin to that afforded by conventional CT protocols but at only a fraction of the radiation dosage.
