Drug survival and post-drug survival of first-line immunosuppressive treatments for atopic dermatitis: Comparison between methotrexate and cyclosporine
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Feb 22, 2018
Man SLP, et al. - Using two survival analyses, “drug survival” (time on the drug) and “post-drug survival” (time between two drugs), the authors compared the treatment profiles of methotrexate and cyclosporine in daily practice as the first-line immunosuppressive treatment in atopic dermatitis. For moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, this was the first direct comparison between methotrexate and cyclosporine as first-line immunosuppressive treatments in daily practice. The researchers evidenced two different treatment profiles. They noted that the duration of methotrexate administration was longer than that of cyclosporine. For evaluating the maintenance of effect of a drug following withdrawal in atopic dermatitis, and more broadly in chronic skin disease, “Post-drug survival” could be a new tool.
