Drug-induced sleep endoscopy findings in supine vs nonsupine body positions in obstructive sleep apnea
JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Dec 25, 2018
Yalamanchili R, et al. - Researchers analyzed 65 candidates in a cross-sectional study to evaluate drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) conclusions in the supine vs nonsupine body positions in positional and nonpositional obstructive sleep apnea. They observed the oropharyngeal lateral walls, a common primary structure causing obstruction, primarily in the lateral body position. They found strategies approaching velum- and tongue-related obstruction was more effective in the positional OSA (POSA) group whereas, in nonobese people, DISE findings were observed different based on body position, usually corresponding to gravitational determinants.
