Drug-induced acute liver failure in children and adults: Results of a single center study of 128 patients
Liver International Dec 15, 2017
Devarbhavi H, et al. - Here, the physicians studied the implicated drugs, clinical features, laboratory characteristics and outcome of patients with drug-induced acute liver failure (DIALF). Furthermore, they aimed to examine the predictors of mortality and their relationship with MELD, Kings College criteria (KCC) and ALFSG prognostic index. Findings revealed that 14% of drug-induced liver injury (DILI) caused DIALF. Most common agents were anti-TB drugs (ATD), antiepileptic drugs (AED), dapsone, antiretroviral drugs. Spontaneous survival was only 34% with an even higher mortality with ATD. A better survival (51%) was observed with non-ATD and non-acetaminophen (APAP) drugs. INR and MELD predicted mortality.
